Wine
and Roses Festival raises $160,000
The 14th annual Wine and Roses Festival concluded
Saturday night, March 31 at the Orpheum Theater in downtown
Sioux City, raising approximately $160,000 in support of the
Alzheimer's Association, Big Sioux Chapter.
Funds raised by the three-day Wine and Roses
Festival, which kicked off March 29 in Le Mars, remain within
the community, maintaining programs and services provided throughout
metro Sioux City, northwest Iowa, northeast Nebraska and southeast
South Dakota.
Persons who were not able to attend the Wine
and Roses Festival but still wish to make a donation may do
so by contacting the Alzheimer's Association at (712) 279-5802.
Everyone attending the Festival, every
little bit of support, makes a real difference in thousands
of lives, said Sikkema. While there remains no cure
for Alzheimers, much can be done to support those living
with the disease and their family members, to maintain personal
dignity and quality of life, and to keep families together for
as long as is safely possible. This is what the Wine and Roses
Festival enables us to do.
The exclusive Winemakers Dinner, held
March 30 at the Sioux City Country Club, included an elegant
auction and multi-course meal, matched with wines selected by
a dozen guest winemakers from across the country. A Saturday
afternoon wine clinic at the Sioux City Art Center led into
that evenings gala wine tasting and benefit auctions,
which was held at the Orpheum for the first time.
Sikkema praised the efforts of festival chair
Chuck Robbins, honorary co-chairs Brad and Jennifer Clay, and
the dozens of dedicated volunteers involved in the planning
of the Wine and Roses Festival, noting that their commitment
was critical to the events success.
The success was also due in large part to
the generosity of numerous local sponsors, including ...
