Senior Day Services

Senior Day Services clients visit the Sioux City Art Center, thanks to the support of the Junior League of Sioux City.

The next best place to home.

Are you providing care to an elderly family member?

Senior Day Services can help. We're an adult day program first established in 1994 for older adults with cognitive or functional impairments (including Alzheimer's disease).

Adult day care--what is it?

Many people who have no experience with adult day care hear the words "day care" and immediately think of something for children, not for adults.

In fact, adult day programs can be a tremendous help for older adults who can’t stay at home alone safely while their family members go to work, run errands, or rest from the stress of fulltime caregiving.

The benefits of Senior Day Services

If you're a client, you get a chance to get out of the house, socialize with your peers, enjoy nutritious meals and snacks, and take part in stimulating activities. At the same time, you're in a safe, supervised environment, where staff can look after your health care needs.

If you're a caregiver, your primary benefit is respite: that all-important "time-out" from caregiving. Whether you have a career to tend to, a family of your own to raise, or even a nap to catch up on, your time is yours again--free of worries.

Recharging your batteries is vital for Alzheimer caregivers--stress and exhaustion can take their toll on you. And with the right support--such as Senior Day Services, respite care, or awareness groups, and education about meeting the challenges of home caregiving--you can help keep your loved one safe and independent at home longer.

  • Are you neglecting your own health or work?
  • Do you feel overwhelmed, or like you're falling behind?
  • Have you cut back on your own personal interests?
  • Do you keep postponing visits with friends or family?
  • Would a break from caregiving help you?
Are you increasingly worried about the isolation or inactivity of a family member who ...
  • has lost interest in old hobbies or in trying new things?
